Carrying Light in a Time of Great Heaviness

When I made my first blog post, I had anticipated launching my store and bringing my paintings and writing to a place where those who love history, color, words, and God could share my passion. Things happened. God changed my direction — from focusing mainly on Spanish Texas and my Captain Pacheco story — to Him. He put The Radiant Ascension on my heart, and I couldn’t move forward until that painting was complete.

My art and my writing have always been about more than just creating pretty things. They are about expressing what overflows from my heart. They are about preserving stories, carrying faith, and offering beauty as a form of hope. Whether it’s Spanish Texas history through the eyes of Captain Pacheco, scripture art that reminds us of resurrection power, or a simple hand-painted print meant to brighten a wall, each piece is a way of saying: light still rules over darkness.

This week, I’ve been reminded why this work matters. Art has always been one of humanity’s ways to grieve, to hope, and to remind one another that truth and goodness endure.

So if you feel the heaviness too, you’re not alone. My prayer is that the things I create — whether a painting, a journal, or a verse on canvas — can be part of your reminder that we are not without hope.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5

Let’s hold to that promise together.

Until next time,
Notes from the River
